Willis Ott

Willis is responsible for the rationale and development of this strategy.  He has many years of translation practice and translation consulting in both print and non-print media.  He is now Oral Translation Consultant, Storying and Orality, SIL.

 

Willis majored in Biblical studies (Northwestern College-1954, now University of Northwestern, St. Paul, MN).  He and his wife joined the Summer Institute of Linguistics in and completed a translation project for the Ignaciano people of Bolivia .  He was a translation consultant in Bolivia and has served as consultant in Botswana , Ethiopia , Guatemala , Kenya , the Democratic Republic of Congo (formerly Zaire ), Peru , Mozambique and Sudan .  He has been involved in training national translators in several countries, has developed a course in translation in colloquial Spanish. After years of service with the Summer Institute of Linguistics, he is retired, but is developing aids for translating Scriptures in the audio media.
