An example of a Communication unit, John 4:46c-53
An oral introduction, spoken by a person who represents the Christian community
[We have put in bold italics a possible script for someone introducing each unit in the receptor language.]
My friends, you who hear me, I want you to know about what we Christians believe concerning Jesus and his teaching.
Long ago, God sent to this earth his special Representative. He was born as a human baby and he grew to become a man. They called him Jesus. God gave him power to heal many people. Sometimes he healed people without even touching them. In that way, he showed that God had sent him.
He taught God’s special message. He taught several men to tell the people about God’s love for us humans.
Those men also told their fellows many things about Jesus. They wrote those things on paper in their language. We have translated their words so that you can understand them in our language.
In these messages, you will hear a man speak our translation as if he was the man who wrote the messages on paper. Listen to the words of that man.
The message, spoken by a person who represents the Apostle John
Sub-unit: John 4:46c-53
[We have put in bold italics a possible script for an audio beginning translation of the Scripture unit in the receptor language.]
There was an important man who lived in another town whose son was sick. The boy was already dying! Then that man heard that Jesus was staying in a town (at the distance a man can walk in a day.) He began going to that town.
When he found Jesus, he strongly asked him that he go (with him back) to save his child from dying.
(Unexpectedly) Jesus said to him, “You leaders! (It seems to me that) you will not believe that God has authorized me because you only want to see some wonders that I can do! ”
The man answered, “ I am not like that! (I believe you have God’s power!) Sir! Please come to my house to heal my son from dying! ”
Then Jesus said, “Your child will live by my power! Go to your home (alone) (to see him)! ”
That person believed the (spoken) word of Jesus. (Because he believed,) he started to go (home).
When he was still going to his house, some of his servants were coming to find him (surprise marker). When they met him, they told him happily, “Your son is alive (strongly)!”
Then he asked them, When did he become strong? ” They said, “Yesterday, his body cooled after the sun started down. He became strong against that fever!”
Then that man (certainly) knew that Jesus healed his son at exactly the moment when he said the word, “Your child will live by my power!” Then that man believed (strongly) (that Jesus was God’s Representative). Also all the people in his home believed like he believed.
A closure, spoken by a person who represents the Christian community
[The purpose of this script is to urge the listener to talk to another person. The process of talking about what he or she has heard helps the talker to understand deeper the truth and it allows the other person to know that such a teaching is available.]
My friends, that man Jesus certainly was powerful! He had power from God because he came to this earth to tell us about God’s love. Jesus told all people who believe his message that they would also have power from God. Perhaps you might want to talk to a neighbor who believes Jesus’ message. Talk to him or her about what you have heard.
